Popularity of Mineral Makeup
By Clara Myers
Mineral makeup has seemingly become popular overnight, but this form of makeup has been around since the time of the ancient Egyptians who lined their eyes with kohl and used henna to color their hair. Nowadays we love mineral makeup for other reasons.
Dermatologists love it because it does not contain the irritating chemicals, dyes, and preservatives found in some top brands of cosmetics. Dermatologists also love it because it is non-comedogenic--it doesn't clog pores. This is great for acne sufferers who don't need anything on their skin causing breakouts.
Many people who have had dermatological procedures such as chemical peels and laser treatments find that mineral makeup is so mild that they can use it after receiving a treatment.
Mineral makeup is also inorganic which means bacteria that can live in other makeup find no home in a compact of mineral makeup. The end result is a longer shelf life for the mineral makeup products you buy.
Consumers who use mineral makeup report that they love the natural look the gives them. It absorbs excess oil, yet reflects light, minimizing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Traditional makeup emphasizes your skin's flaws because it settles into fine lines. Mineral makeup diffuses your imperfections while hydrating your skin and providing necessary antioxidants.
Yet another bonus is that mineral makeup is actually good for the skin. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide both have anti-inflammatory properties and are good for the skin. These ingredients can calm down congested pores and also act as a mild sun block.
Individuals with rosacea or acne-prone skin will find that by using mineral makeup their skin may appear less irritated and have fewer flare-ups.
While many think of one brand in particular when they think of mineral makeup, there are actually many great brands on the market such as

Mineral makeup is not just foundation, blush, and eye shadow. Mineral makeup also includes lipsticks which are made from a mineral base as well and healthy for your lips.
When choosing a brand, make sure the retailer has a good return policy. If you try a brand that doesn't work for you, don't think mineral makeup is not for you. The mixture of ingredients varies by brand, so just try another one that may be more suitable for your skin.
